Nick Barte

Nick Barte

Head Coach

Coach Barte is a Grandview Heights High School graduate who earned All-Ohio honors in wrestling and baseball before becoming a four-year starter at Eastern Kentucky University. After graduating with a degree in Mathematics Education, he began a successful teaching and coaching career that included two KHSBCA Assistant Coach of the Year honors. As a varsity head coach in Louisville, Coach Barte compiled a 107–41 record and was named the 2022 KHSBCA Head Coach of the Year. Inducted into the Grandview Heights Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016, Coach Barte now lives in Corona del Mar with his wife, Candace, and teaches math and coaches baseball at Corona del Mar Middle and High School.

Jon Green

Varsity Coach

17th year as a Corona del Mar varsity assistant and 23rd year coaching at the varsity level. Played shortstop at Dana Hills HS and was a four-year letterman at George Washington University.

Brett VertiganVarsity

Varsity Coach

Garden Grove League MVP at Rancho Alamitos and Big West batting champion at UC Santa Barbara. Brings elite hitting and outfield instruction to the Sea Kings staff.

Chris GomezJV

Chris Gomez

JV Coach

16-year MLB veteran who played shortstop for the Tigers, Padres, Rays, Twins, Blue Jays, Orioles, Indians, and Pirates. Batted .364 in the 1998 World Series with San Diego.

Mitch GardnerJV

Mitch Gardner

JV Coach

Corona del Mar alum and three-year starting shortstop who went on to play at Chico State. Teaches Social Science and English at Corona del Mar and also coaches football. Entering his fourth year on staff.

Isaiah VasquezJV

JV Coach

2025 Corona del Mar graduate and two-year varsity pitcher for the Sea Kings. John Emme Scholarship recipient now studying Business Administration at OCC.

Kike MoralesFreshman

Kike Morales

Freshman Coach

Second year with Corona del Mar. Played college baseball at IVC and Georgetown College (KY), with summer ball in the Northwoods League. Pursuing a teaching credential at CSU Fullerton.
